The term Qadiani comes from Qadian, the birthplace of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad. Critics often use this term to highlight the geographical origin of the movement rather than acknowledging it by its self-chosen name, “Ahmadiyya.”
Followers of the movement prefer the term “Ahmadi” because they believe it honors their leader’s spiritual mission. However, “Qadiani” is widely used in South Asia and beyond to identify the group.
This naming dispute reflects deeper disagreements about the legitimacy of the movement and its theological claims.
